Singapore Laksa - need I say more?
An absolute gem in the west of Ottawa, this longstanding favourite offers phenomenal Singaporian/Malaysian food rivalling any that I have had in the very country of its origin. Their Laksa is a classic one dish lunch of rice noodles, chicken, shrimp, egg, and beansprouts, all bathing in delectable and deceptively spicy cocounut, tumeric, ginger and....well let's just say that owner Abah would not tell me the rest. Run don't walk.

Delish!
I have been here a few times. People from my work told me about it. There first time I went was with three other girls for dinner before a movie. We got the owner to order for us and we tried many different things. The owner is funny and kind. the place was empty but the take out was non stop. Been there for lunch a few times - the place is packed. You can get lunch for under ten dollars and it's delish. There is no decor inside - looks like a bingo hall! The food is really worth it. The owner remembers me each time which is nice. I also love that you can get a 1.5L of Colbie Wine for 28 dollars!! Try this place out.

Recent Experiences better
Been back a few times craving some curry noodles. The dish tastes much better with a bit of extra seasoning (read: salt) and they don't hold back if you ask them to hurt you with spice, which I appreciate. This was a fact that was made abundantly clear when I went with a friend and our orders got mixed up! The portion is large enough for a meal and in hindsight the prices aren't too bad although the interior could use a bit of a sprucing up.

I've had the springrolls here and they were okay. Haven't tried anything else off the main menu yet and the burnt egg phenomenon seems to have been a one off. The service is awkward but in an endearing way. Score slightly improved to reflect this change in opinion.

Hadn't been there since 1995!
the place has not changed! I noticed that the owner guy has lost weight.. and the same waiter is still there! Good service. I tried lemon chicken this time. Unlike the one from Chinese restaurant, this one did not have any sauce on top but it was still ok.

The food is very good (yes, Laksa!) and the service is excellent. Both the owner and the waiter are friendly and like to chat, so it's a great place to go if you're dining alone. That said, they are very family and group friendly too. It's always a pleasure to eat there.

great creative menu. decor is uncreative . everything is portioned very well for a thai restaurant. try the fried rice. its the best I've ever had in this city. the spring rolls are amazing . the scallop dishes are cooked to perfection. the service is friendly and always attentive.

First impression, we thought we were in a diner. As soon as the food came we were instantly impressed! The one time we were there was enough to bring us back. We had a large group (about 12) and the service was fairly good. (The waiter seemed a little shy) I must recommend the satay as an appetizer. There were too many items on the menu to choose from but worth another visit.

This is an amazing restaurant. The food is always incredible, including the pineapple shrimp, black bean beef, spring rolls, and satay. The Lemon chicken is to die for! We always go early, around 5:30 for dinner and it is almost empty, business really picks up around seven, so if you want excellent service go early. the waiter is really nice and the owner is friendly. Though it is not really thai - more a mix of malaysian and chinese it is still an amazing restaurant. I'd reccommend it to anyone, as i try to go as often as possible!

I travel extensively and always seek out the best Asian cuisine that a city has to offer. I have no hesitation in stating that this place ranks amongst the best. What is lacking in decor and ambiance is more than compensated by the superb cuisine and the attentive, if ecclectic, service. For dinner, you can't go wrong with any choice off of the impressive menu. For lunch, it simply must be LAKSA! Enjoy.

The food here is amazing however the service and atmosphere is very weak. The rating above says expensive but this place is very inexpensive. Don't let the service and atmosphere stop you from going- the food and price are well worth the trip.

Food was mediocre. Most dishes seem to be doused with too much soya sauce. My pop was flat. Lunch cost me 12 bucks.

I haven't been in a while, since moving to Toronto, but I used to go frequently, and the food is incomparable. A mix of styles and cuisines, certainly, and unrivaled in the Ottawa region. The owner would come to my table when I was dining alone, and regale me with stories and history of the Asian area from which he hails. A hidden gem, well worth the travel to the West end. Exceptional.

We recently had a pleasant lunch here. "Singapore" food is a blend of Chinese, Malaysian, and Indonesian. They have a special luncheon menu with reasonable prices. Food is very good-I had the Laksa-a meal-sized bowl of soup with a delicate coconut milk flavour- stuffed with thin noodles, chicken, bean curd, some shrimp & lightly spiced with curry. My friend had the lemon chicken with rice. We'll definitely return for another lunch.

Not a lot of atmosphere but the food is great. I'd recommend the Laksa, a noodle dish with shrimp, egg, chicken... It's delicious. And hard to eat without making a mess...

The food is more Malaysian than Thai. Good place to bring somebody new, it's a great experience for them.
