Great Food
My wife and I have been to Baton Rouge few times and were always been pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. The food we have ordered there have been done to perfection. The side dishes come in ample portions and are also very tasty. The only negative thing about the place is it is very pricey.

Food poisoning again!
My husband, myself and our two children visited the Kanata Centrum location yesterday evening. Service was prompt, food was slow. My husband and I both had the prime rib. We both woke up early this morning regretting it. We have been sick all day! Myself I got food poisoning from Baton Rouge about 7 years ago maybe. It was a chicken breast with feta and stuff, not sure what it was called. Needless to say I always give people the benefit of doubt, but being sick twice is enough. We will never go back again. Reading about many other food poisoning cases.

Great spot to relax & great ribs!
Great place for large groups and parties. Went here on a Thursday evening, with a group of six for a birthday party. We were greeted by one server who took our drink orders, then by another who took our meal orders. The service was very friendly and full of smiles!

3 rib and chicken meals were ordered, a sandwich and an appetizer. Ribs were fall off the bone, but chicken was a tad dry.

Received a big slab of birthday brownie cake to share as a group desert.

Will be back, portions were huge, be prepared for A LOT of fries if you order that for your side! They are far from stingy!

Worst steak in Ottawa
Busy place on game night for sure. A friend made reservations for6:30. Not expecting much we got even less. I ordered 16 oz rib steak $31. Had to py extra for beans because I wanted garlic mashed as well and seems you can't do this. My steak was ordered med rare. When it came to the table I knew right away it was rare by the pale gray color and faint grill marks. It was rare and I got a nudge from my wife not to ruin the birthday boys night by complaining. The extra cost $4 beans were under cooked and the mashed luke warm. My wife ordered the ribs and shrimp. I got a taste of the fall off the bone ribs and you could tell right away they were boiled then thrown on the grill and slapped with sauce. This is just unacceptable since all you could really taste was the cheap sauce. The ribs were water logged. Can't wait for summer vacation to Memphis for real ribs. Meadeocracy would be an understatement. Two for three this weekend.

Great place for date night or with good friends.
Loved this place. Never disappointed. I always get the 'catch of the day' and DH gets the chicken and ribs. Wish there was more selection on tap, but since it's not a night crawling bar, no big deal! Love it and will go back

Rib Special at Bar
I have been to the Kanata location about 30 times. The only thing I order is the rib special. Available at the bar. A ten once rack of 'fall off the bone" baby-back ribs with fries. It is always the same...GREAT! If you order the pepper sauce and coleslaw, you end up with a roundly balanced flavor excursion. The meal 4 two ends up costing about $40.00. Add some beer and a tip ($20.00) and you are off to the movies. The restaurant uses a liquid smoke. It is evaporated in the oven while cooking the meat. Fooled me.

A Mixed Experience
Mrs. Murph and I went to this restaurant after the Sens matinee game on Hallowe'en. We got there shortly after the game ended and the place was almost empty. We had been to Baton Rouge once before with another couple. I remember it being pricey then. Fortunately I had some gift certificates that colleagues had given me for Christmas a couple of years back. I had forgotten about them until I found them recently.

We were seated promptly and one of the servers (we had the same one at all times) took our drink order. Personally speaking, I don't mind the decor. While it did get a little louder as more people got there, I didn't find the noise overpowering. We were able to carry on a conversation quite easily. After reviewing the menus for a few minutes, our server came and took our order. The missus had a Caesar salad while I had the Cream of Potato soup. The salad was quite good. The soup was very thick - you could stand a fork up in it thick! It contained many chunks of potato and was nicely garnished with green onion, bacon bits and cheddar cheese. I found it quite tasty. If you got a bigger bowl, you might be able to consider it a meal in itself.

For main courses, I splurged (tossing aside my eating regimen for a day!) and had the chicken, rib and shrimp platter with steamed veggies. Mrs. Murph had the linguine with shrimps and scallops. The veggies (carrots, cauliflower and broccoli) were steamed to perfection and the meats were great. The ribs were fall off the bone and the jumbo shrimp were very nicely grilled. The chicken and ribs had a very nice hint of BBQ sauce. Some places slather on the sauce. I didn't find that with my portions. Mrs. Murph didn't care for her scallops so I traded them for a couple of my shrimp. Nice trade. I also had a sampling of the pasta. It was steaming hot and very well presented. After gorging on soup, salad, pasta, veggies and tons of proteins for about an hour(our choice) we skipped dessert.

Our server presented the bill for $85. Fortunately, I had $80 in gift certificates. That's why I say this visit was a mixed experience. It was significantly more expensive than I recall it being the last time we were there four years ago. We had a good time. We enjoyed the atmosphere. We both enjoyed our dinners. The service was very good. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the amount of food we got for $85 wasn't worth it. I knew it would be expensive but I was a little taken aback. Although we did enjoy our treat, it's not the kind of place we have to go to for a fix once a month or so. Having said that, we will probably go back again in the future for another visit. In an atmosphere like this, I think it's all about individual tastes.

So So Restaurant
I have been there a few times, met lots of lads from our Senators team, they seem to go quite often, but not really sure why. The food is ok, the service is ok but not really great and it is pricey. Ambiance is ok but a bit loud. My husband refuses to go back. I would go back, but only if with friends who really wanted to go there.

Worst restaurent experience ever, never again.
Worst restaurant experience ever. This restaurant has caused me to have a fear of eating at restaurants. My experience was that terrible. The staff are extremely rude and unprofressional, it is all about your 'class' there. If you are known to have a lot of cash, and are wearing designer clothes, you are treated with respect, if you are not filthy rich, don't expect to have good service. I had made a reservation 2 days in advance and was ignored by the hostess(s), they were letting people in who didn't even have reservations. I asked why I hadn't been seated yet, and my friend and I were ignored.

Finally, we were seated, and waiter came promptly. He seemed to be very impatient for us to make an order, we felt rushed and under pressure. We were served the food in about 20 minutes, it was of poor quality. My friend's fries were so salty that he could not eat them. I had asked for no dressing for allergy reasons, and recieved a salad with the dressing poured all over it. We had about 4 different servers, we didn't know who was who, and I even saw some of the server's eating fries off my friend's plate before bringing it to us.

This restaurant is poorly run, and a big disappointment. The snobbiness of the staff is suffocating. The bad music is so loud you cannot have a conversation with your companion. Also, the decor reminded me of a cheap, raunchy type of place.

I had such bad service and such a bad experience, that I am very weary now of going to restaurants. This experience has made me want to eat at home with friends instead of going through that again.

Great waiter = great service
Went to Baton Rouge last night for dinner and had a wonderful waiter. I truly felt as though we were the only people in the restaurant. My wife had the chicken and rib special ( very good) I thought I would try something different for a change and had the seared tuna steak. I didn't care for it but I know that it was me and not the chef. I think I just prefer my tuna cooked a little more. the lime ginger dressing for the tuna is fantastic

I agree with dodgegirl this location is way better than the Albert Street one. My husband and I went on a weeknight because we were in the area. It wasn't overly crowded, and surprisingly we only had two waiters serve us that time, one for the drinks, the other for the food. As mentioned in a previous post, the Albert Street location seems to have multiple servers waiting on people, which can be confusing. The food was fine, very big portions. All in all a nice experience. I may return if in the area.

5 different servers but tasty food
Recently went back to Baton Rouge and the food was very good. I had the ribs and a baked potato on the side. There are a few things I do not like about this place:
- it is way too dark, almost dangerously so
- a different server every time. So weird. One person seated me(1), another took my drink order(2), Another brought me a menu(3), yet another brought my drink(4), then another person took my order(5), another brought utensil and condiments(6), yet another refilled my water(7), another asked me how my meal was(8), 6th person cleared my table, and 7th person brought me my bill. By the end of it I was so weirded out that I wanted to laugh. Is this some kind of joke? I much prefer having one or two people serving me, so I know who to talk to. I am glad other people noticed this too and did not like it.
- prices are too high to go there often
- they got rid of all the items, except the ribs, that I like. The menu is much more limited than it has been in the past. I used to order a nice avocado sandwich and it is gone. They also got rid of the cheese spinach side, which I loved.
If you have the money to spend then check it out, the ribs are excellent. But beware of the rotating service, it is very very odd and bring your night vision goggles to navigate to the washroom. :0)

Complete Regrets !!!
After the dinner the other time, I had brought home some left over from my wife's plate, and my own, which I didn't finish.

I had the worst stomach pain ever a few hours after eating the left over ribs!!!

I never ever, not once felt such stomach pain. Some of the people that ate with me the night prior who had the ribs also said they had some stomach pain and discomfort once I mentionned mine.

I had alot of problem sleeping last night because of it. I was in sweat over the stomach pain. I think its food poisionning. Whatever it was, it was misrable.

Maybe we had a bad batch of ribs, whatever it was, it wasn't delicious, and it sure as he11 wasn't pleasant afterwards.

I'm sorry to say, I'll be staying away. I get better ribs at Costco. Actually, Costco rib is decent for the price.

Baton Rouge ... NEVER MORE!!!
I CONDEM THEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Kanata Better than Downtown
I have visited this location more than five times in the past few years, but I have only visited the dt locations once. I do not recommend this restaurant if it is a weekend and you have no reservation, in fact to be safe I would book one even if going on a weekday. I sympathize and understand other peoples criticisms of their team service, but I have grown used to it, and think it has worked to my benefit when I have attended. (I have no waited very long for anything after I have requested it) I have ordered the ribs in the past and they are good, but I like the prime rib, or filet better. I like that they give you the option of finishing your prime rib on the grill , I almost always order the loaded baked potato because I find the fries are too much, and whenever I have ordered the apples they have been lukewarm (I have never tried the other side they offer) The past few times I have eaten at the Kanata location I have been served by the same server, who is always friendly and smiling (he evens remembers me and the others dining with me) I recommend the raspberry cheesecake thing for desert, but I have not tried the others.

Well Served
My boyfriend and I decided to go here for our Valentine's Day dinner. We had booked a reservation about 2 weeks in advance at the peak time of the rush. We were promptly seated in a quiet booth and really enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant was packed, but being in a booth really made it feel like we had the place to ourselves. My boyfriend had the Tennesse BBQ Chicken, and I had another chicken (I forget the name of it now), which had melted cheese, fresh diced tomatoes etc. and it was very good. The serving was large, but was good for the price we paid. I didn't manage to finish it, but I do have to say, it was actually even better the next day as left overs! It was nice to be checked up on frequently, and our drink refills came rather fast for the most part. I will likely be back again.

Very Disappointing
I went here before a hockey game. It was packed full of hockey fans, since it's so close to the arena, so people without reservations had to wait over an hour. We had reservations, and had heard good things about this place, but were very disappointed. I ordered their "signature steak" which arrive raw in the middle (I ordered medium rare), and had no seasoning on it whatsoever. The fries were undercooked, and the cinnamon apples were cold and flavorless. I had a simple brownie with vanilla ice cream for desert, but the brownie was hard as a rock.

I had to ask twice and wait 20 minutes for a coke refill. I had a different waitress for every order, and the only staff person who checked in on us appeared to be the host/head waiter guy, who was ticked off at his own staff for not being attentive enough. Waitresses also spent a long time at the computer station chatting instead of picking up orders. I will not go back.

Menu price omission
While we had no problem with the meal, I noticed upon leaving that I was charged $7.50 for a draft imported beer. The menu states only that imported beer (draft) is $5.65 (or thereabouts). When I brought it to his attention, the server stated that the $7.50 price was for a large (pint) beer. I mentioned that the menu neither indicates the size of the beer, or that there are different sizes or prices available. In fact, the only price for draft imported beer is as stated above. Indeed, the waiter did not ask me which size beer I wanted - I just asked for a beer and got a pint, as I assumed that there was only one size on offer, as indicated by the menu. If they are offering two sizes of draft beer, they should list two prices.

The waiter did refund me the difference (though not very pleasantly), so that is not the problem. I am sure there are many customers who think the price is as stated on the menu. In fact, had I realized the price was $7.50, I would not have bought it. The glass was only 3/4 full, at that!

Also, I find it odd that a restaurant charging quite high prices does not serve any sort of rolls or bread with its meals.

Very Disappointed
A party of six for Mother's Day treat. We had reservatons for 0600 PM and arrived at 0540 PM. We were seated by 0555 PM. Very attentive waiter(s) who brought the drinks we ordered and the took our menu selections. The restaurant was busy but not packed as there were at least three tables empty in our secton during the entire time we had dinner. Three of us had 16 oz baby back ribs and baked potato. Two of the potatos were "cold" and one luke warm. I sent my plate back and my wife waited and then decided to send the potato back. A long wait but my food was returned without the waiter even waiting for me to sample the food. Plunked the food down and gone. Hard to believe it but the potato was as cold as the first one. Head waiter finally returned to check on the table and back went the whole plate. My wife's potato was hot when returned. Another long wait and the meal was returned. Same routine - drop the meal and gone. No opportunity to comment. The potato was "warm". When eating the potato I discovered a large ice cold piece of butter inside the potato. The head waiter said we would receive complimentary desserts. The table had two separate bills and one dessert was complimentary for each bill - big deal. I agree with the previous comment a very expensive meal, a very poor response to address the cold potato and we will never enter this restaurant again. Too bad as my daughter who was visiting from Toronto says the Baton Rouge they go to in Toronto serves hot food with excellent service. I now see why the restaurant had empty tables on Mother's Day.

High Expectations grossly disappointed
My wife and I dine out a minimum of 4 times a week, and we are always looking for a restaurant with good service and quality food.
We were excited at the prospect of this new restaurant, relatively close to home and with what appeared to be a quality dining experience.
The night we arrived the restaurant was very busy and we did not have reservations - we were seated quickly, none-the-less. We found the service, from 3 different servers, to be adequate but slightly inattentive (none of our servers came to check on our meal or return to refresh our drinks or bring more bread, etc).
The food was edible and adequate. It was no more extraordinary than many, many other restaurants in the city. The restaurant in no way made itself stand out from the rest by its offering, or its service.
What did stand out in our mind was the extraordinary bill we received - completely out of line with the quality of the food or the attentiveness of the servers.
So if all we were paying for was the nice furniture and ambience, then we didn't receive value for money.

Great choice for "Date Night" if you have a reservation.
My wife and I decided to brave Baton Rouge last Friday night without a reservation. Wow. It was absolutely crazy there, obviously a very popular restaurant. I waited about 75 minutes for our table, (while my wife continued to work late at her office close by, awaiting my call that we were "in").

Our patience was finally rewarded with a generously sized booth for two. I called my wife, and she was able to join me in time for the appetizers (ok, yes, I started my salad without her, but I did wait 75 minutes for the darn table, right?) :)

Anyway, we found the service to be extremely good. At least three different servers shared our table, and they must have a great system in place, as the service was truly seamless. We shared the aforementioned house salad as an appetizer. It was huge, and one of our waitresses graciously brought us an extra serving of bacon, egg, and dressing for the bottom half of the dish. My bloody mary was nicely spiced, and while the glass was only of moderate size, they were definitely generous with the good stuff.

I had the 16oz ribs served with a heaping helping of tasty shoe string fries, and a coleslaw with a pleasant tang. My wife enjoyed the rims and shrimp combo, and found the brown beans (as a side dish) were very tasty as well.

Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert, but both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. :)

Kudos to Baton Rouge for accomodating such a large number of guests, and still managing to treat us like we were VIP's. :)

We have gone here a number of times and have always been quite happy with the service, the food, and the price.

The food has always been very good and everything is in generous portions, even for the hearty appetite.

Even with a large seating capacity, the place is quite frequently packed. We have had to wait a few minutes on occasion, however, it has always been worth the wait (even though the aroma can be torturous on the empty stomach).

HORRIBLE!
Visiting the Baton Rouge in the Kanata mall was one of the worst experiences that we encountered. We had made reservations for an evening and when we arrived, our table was still being cleared. Our "numerous" waiters took 30 min. just to get to our table to take our drink order. We waited another 25 min. just to place our meal oder, with a different server. The meal arrived much later, cold and without any applogy for taking so long. Eating very quickly just to get out of there was our initial intent, but to get the bill, we waited 30 min. Total time spent waiting=TOO LONG!! Do not go there, the one downtown is 100 x's better and more efficient. I hope that they do not share the same owner!

I've been to this restaurant twice. Both times for dinner.

The place is very nicely decorated with comfortable seating. The wait staff was friendly, but the shared thing is a bit weird for me. I didn't feel like I was So-and-So's special customer, but different people attending us, just to get their chores done.

The food had been hyped up so much by the person I went with, that I was disappointed in the end. The portions were too big (I prefer quality over quantitiy, especially at those prices), and I've had better ribs elsewhere. (Montana's for one). I was very disappointed with the sides as well. It's not ALL about the main course all the time!
My second visit was the same - ok, but not really worth the price.

I've been to this place 2 or 3 times. I've had the ribs and the tuna and the shrimp cocktail. The only really good item here are the ribs. You just can't go wrong! It's what they do best! However, I'm really not crazy about the sides that they serve....They really need to improve on that.

Other than that, not a bad place. If I want ribs, this is the place I will go!

FILET MIGNON!
My wife and I often dine at the above noted restaurant and usually have ribs which we consider to be the best in the area. On the last visit we had filet mignon and were disappointed. One of the filet mignon was served as an end of loin and held together with a toothpick since it was in two(2) pieces.
When you charge $28. for a filet mignon this is truly unacceptable.
WROTE TO THE RESTAURANT ABOUT THIS AND IN A REPLY THE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS WELCOMED OUR FEEDBACK AND ADDED " WE VALUE OUR CUSTOMERS AND HOPE THAT WE PROVIDE THEM WITH A QUALITY DINING EXPERIENCE". We have visited the Baton Rouge again and came away fully satisfied.

I usually go here with some friends and I always enjoy the experience. The atmosphere is very lively, since it is always busy with happy clients and they show the hockey game on the multiple TV screens, also a bonus. The drinks are well-done, the wine list is good with lots of selection by the glass, and the ribs are always tender, falling off the bone, perfect. The plates are huge, but they are perfect for sharing, as are the huge starters, which are really little main courses. For those of you who claim it's too expensive or that the plates are too huge, sharing the plates and the bill will probably help you change your mind.

Baton Rouge Kanata will never see our family ever again. After making a reservation we arrived on time and had to wait an additional 20 minutes because they filled all the tables... obvioulsy with indifference to the reservations they make with customers. I asked for the manager and made the point that a reservation should be honored without making customers wait - he simply didn't care at all(he's fleecing it for all he can get and couldnt care less was his "attitude").

The food is on par with others similar restaurants but not great. Prices are a bit high and the place is noisey. The ribs are not as good as Montanas despite all the hoopla they try to make in commercials... Montanas are tastier and more meaty for the same money or less.

The attitude was simply terrible and unjustifiable... will NEVER return.

The atmosphere inside is pretty nice. It's clean and relatively quiet. I had the Baton Rouge Club for lunch. They are kind of hard to screw up but it was definately decent food. The french fries are tasty and the serving sizes are huge.

I WILL NOT be back!
We arrived at the restaurant at 5:55 for our 6:00 reservation and were promptly seated in the bar area.
At first things went well, we ordered a bottle of wine and our dinner.
The food came very quickly, we also ordered a piece of Key Lime Pie to share.
We were presented our bill at 6:25! We still had 1/2 a bottle of wine left and had not even been asked if we wanted coffee.
Within 2 minutes someone asked us if we needed the Debit Machine - We hadnt' even looked at the bill yet.
To top our evening off there were 2 'gentlemen' leaning onto our booth and talking every loudly into my ear, so loudly that I could not even hear my husband speaking to me.
We complained to the floor manger - and said that we were seated at 6:00 it was now 6:30 and were being rushed to pay our $115.00 bill - and we still had 1/2 a bottle of wine left. All he said was that he was sorry we felt that way - as he was pushing he debit machine towards my husband.
My husband even went and knocked on the office door to speak to the main manager and all she said was
"I am sorry sir but we are filled to capacity"
We understood that but it doesnt explain being treated as if THEY were doing us a favour by letting us spend 1/2 an hour in their restaruant. Remember we did make reservations the prev ous week!
The food was delicous but my dinning experience was terrible!
We dine out quite a bit and were really looking forward to the Baton Rouge but were terribly disapointed.

Waited an hour for a table (7:30 on a Thursday) so sat at the bar to wait. Took about 10 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us. Eventually got to sit down but were ignored for about 20 minutes, despite the fact we were seated next to the servers terminal and had empty drinks and plates on the table (from an app. ordered at the bar). Finally someone came by and took our orders, but we had to ask for water. Drink refills took a long time too...overall, service was frustrating. The food was decent but overpriced. I didn't find the atmosphere to be that special - it was nice, but I don't get the hype. Overall, probably won't be back as there are too many other places to try, unless I am somehow stuck in Kanata with no options.

RIBS!!!! Amazing ribs, average sides (comparable to Montana's or something), great atmosphere, average service for the price you pay. Didn't sample anything else on the menu so all I can say is RIBS!

Well, the best I can say is that the atmosphere is good for a nice dinner, and the ribs are very good. But, the service is very slow, and there is not a lot of variety on the menu. The ribs are good, but if you order pasta comes in a frozen pack like most of their food, and is prepared and unthawed right before your meal. The fries, steak burgers and ribs are all good if you dont mind what I just said, but they do overpack the plates with fries. The price can be quite expensive, but the food can also be quite good if taken in with the atmosphere.

the only good thing about this restaurant is the decor

bulls eye barbaque sauce is good for my fridge at home but i dont want manufactured ribs and mccain invisicoat fries for that price! this restaurant represents everything wrong in the culinary world today. the idea that they can pump food out like a fast food chain at prices out of this world.
.wheres the love
all i see is lies.and you sheep all eat it up.this restaurant is a farce.nana wanted half the fries cause shes 80 but the "chef wouldnt do it"we were willing to pay the same price! .whats the matter afraid your plates would look weak without the mound of fries on it?in a world where people are starving overseas and this place is willing to throw out astronomical amounts of food to make a few bucks. i wouldnt go to this place if someone paid me on morality alone.i work in a restaurant myself so i see it for what it is high end macdonalds.ooooo but maybe ill be able to rub elbows with kanatas elite!

Food & atmosphere were great, but our server was extremely slow. It took her about 5/10 minutes to bring our drinks. I have alos heard that this is quite normal for this place - SLOW SERVICE.

The servings can be ridiculously large though. Way too many fries and it is quite expensive.

I always say I'll never go back here... but I can't help it, the ribs are so good! If only they weren't ruined every single time by bad service! Most recently, we had a group of 10 ppl for dinner. We made reservations well in advance, but still ended up waiting nearly 30 mins for a table- unacceptable! As we were sitting down the waitress came to ask for drink and appetizer orders, before we even had a chance to take our coats off and look at the menu. That was pretty much her only showing for the night, as the unattentive service that seems to plague this place really shone through. If only the ribs weren't sooo delicious...

My wife gave it a 10 out of 10. I paid $101 for dinner for two - more of a 7. I still think Moxie's or the Keg is friendlier service and better value for the price. That said my filet mignon was good, mashed potatoes not that great. I could've made a less bland ceasar salad myself - not much to write home about.

Kanata Location - Overall experience was excellent. I still think the service is not quite right...can't put my finger on it, but they are trying too hard and not friendly enough for me.

The food, on the other hand, is exceptional. My husband said his steak was the best he has ever had. I had the chicken tenders becaue BR makes them like no other place I know....the chicken is tender and the batter is so unique and delicious. And the baked potatoes fully loaded are OUT OF THIS WORLD....you have to try them to know what I mean...wow!!! The portions are very generous as they should be as this prices are on the high side. Even the caesar salad that came for one, seemed like it was for two.

The lighting in this restaurant is very dark...didn't enjoy that at all. Had a hard time reading the menu, etc. I like dim lighting, but this was ridiculous.

All in all, a great culinary experience.

We had supper at Baton Rouge (360 Albert) tonight (Aug. 25, 2006) and the experience was truly horrible. A few things contributed to this fiasco. I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich (take my advice and run from that dish). I actually had to order the sandwich twice, since there was a very unapetizing hair hiding in the first one I got. Well, the second one was completely bland and tasteless - except for the oil that was dripping profusely, resulting in the second problem with the sandwich: the soagy bun. I couldn't eat the bun, so I forced myself to some of the veggies - munching on the sand that was still hiding in unwashed portobello mushrooms.
Oh, and another advice to all vegetarians: there's actually ground meat in their beans. I ordered those as a side dish since it wasn't mentionned anywhere. I had to return that too.

Believe it or not, we had to return the second dish to the kitchen as well. The ribs were served nice and cold. For $21, you expect your ribs to be at least room-temperature.
When the ribs got back from the kitchen, they were served without side-dishes....we didn't mention it to the server: at this point we basically gave up on the idea of having a nice supper.

And yes, we had to pay the full bill. Servers seemed concerned everytime we mentionned a problem, but, at the same time, they were rather unapologetic. When I mentionned the soagy bun to the waitress I got a 'you should have told me' as she was handing us the bill.

The team-service concept made it so that every server got a separate problem and no one got the full picture of our disastrous experience, and we had to explain what was going on to 4 different people - which was seriously taxing our evening. Definitely overpriced for a big load of julienne fries.

I've never had a bad dining experience at Baton Rouge. We used to go to other restaurants in the Centrum area but ever since discovering Baton Rouge we no longer even think about going to the others. The baby back ribs are to DIE for. The spinach & artichoke dip is amazing. The santa fe chicken is absolutely delightful. They could really cut down on the portions though. It's soooo much food, but at least you feel like you've really gotten your moneys worth.
Yes, it is a bit noisy but that is because it is ALWAYS packed. It's nice because people with small children can go out and enjoy a great meal and not worry about their kids being too noisy. (I don't have kids) Anyone complaining about team service would be the same person to complain if they had one server who took too long. I'm fine with the team service because you don't have to keep looking around for one server.
Keep up the good work at Baton Rouge.

** Updated July 26th, 2006 **

Ok - the jury is back. This restaurant, along with its downtown cousin, has priced itself out of the "value for money" segment. While the food is palatable, it is not in keeping with the escalating prices.

Service, unfortunately, continues to be a "hit and miss" proposition.

Our last visit on July 20th was our last. Couple of plates of ribs and a couple of beers should NOT add up to a tab north of $80.

I tend to agree with most other comments below. It's a restaurant in search of an identity... do I want to be "high brow" or "sports pub"? Until BR figures it out, I will not return.

***********************************************

Jury is still out on the food. On some visits, the food is excellent... while at other times, it misses. Prices are consistent with a dining establishment with a decent atmosphere and decor.

Service is also a little spotty, but nothing too serious to complain about.

Overall, decent food and decor, but lacks consistency from one visit to the next.

Yeah I left service blank here. All the staff seemed pleasent and were there to serve, but this is my third time at Baton Rouge and I will just never get used to the whole team service thing. There is no sense of being taken care of...Shame, like I said everyone was nice and helpful, but we still longed for a personal server.

That said, the ribs were devine as always. My Girlfreind had a chicken dish and enjoyed it greatly as well.

Way too loud for the upscale presence they seem to be going for...Turn down the pop music and the clientele wont have to talk so loud and have the noise echo through the whole place!

Two of us went. I had the rib steak with a soup to start. She had the baby ribs.

Despite what I have read, the service was excellent. We were well taken care of, despite the different server every time.

The food was so-so. The steak was tender, but lacked some flavor. My steaks at home are better. The ribs were pretty good, falling off the bone, but they were also lacking something...maybe they needed some kind of sweetness added.

The prices were high for what you get, but if they got some better seasonings or BBQ sauce, they'd be good.

Excellent (287.22)

May 20,2006.

A return visit on a Saturday evening, two of us shared the Louisiana chicken salad and the third diner had the halibut fish dinner which was the feature of the evening.

No bread served except some cheese toast with the entrees, water only on request. The salad was huge lots of lettuce, no tomatoes or other vegetables, not too much chicken loaded with fattening peanut dressing. The halibut was fresh and was ordered with steamed vegetables.

All in all satisfactory nothing special in consideration of the twenty to thirty dollar charge for most entrees.

October8th,2005.

I have moved the ratings down a notch or two. There was so much noise, that we couln't talk to our fellow diners. No need for the loud country and rock background music. They were busy and the service was slow and confusing while so many people are waiting on you. The quality is definetly better than a Kelsey's or Montanas but at what price? It's hard to rationalize a $26.95 rib steak, where I have had equal to or better at Palais Grecque at $16.95 with two more sides. The seafood linguini was not a linguini at all. The shrimp and scallops were first rate but the pasta was overcooked almost to spaghetti-o's consitency. No doubt the ribs is the dish of choice there. In Ottawa you will not do better, unless you have made a trip to Dixie to sample authentic southern BBQ ribs. They have quit serving a dinner roll with your meal, and water is only available on request.

Back again on June 12, Saturday about 5PM. This time we had the Sante Fe Chicke. Tender and tasty, loaded with veggies and cheese. a bit salty, this is a sodium nightmare. Huge portions enough for a doggy bag lunch the next day.

I looked around and noticed many of the diners lapping down their ribs. They are of the smaller variety and very sweet. Ottawa folks need to take a trip to the US south and go to Longhorns found in Georgia and Florida and taste some real southern ribs. No comparison. Like having smoked meat in Montreal vs Ottawa.

I'm going to add a comment or two here. Look at the so called chefs in the open kitchen, they are a bunch of students, and some others but nor real chefs trained at a culinary school, after a visit to Applebees in northern New York you can see the similarities.
Another visit on March 6 to Kanata location with some noticeable improvements despite the one hour wait. Cloth napkins in addition to paper ones. And real mashed potators instead of instant ones. However it's hard to justify a $24 rib staek, with a puny caesar salad and only mashed if you opt for a potato option. The steak was of good quality, no doubt but lacked spices and a zing of a similar cut at Casa Grecque fror $15.95 with salad, potatoes and rice. The small dinner roll from Rideau Bakery cannot replace a loaf of fresh bread. The ribs are delicious, almost as good as Cage Aux Sports in Gatineau (without the smokers). The multi water/ waitress thing is popular in South Florida, and does provide for efficient service. A visit at lunch to the Montreal location off of Decarie Blvd proved to be very ordinary. An 8 ounce hamburger, quite tasteless and an oriental chicken salad, also a grilled vebetable salad. $43 for the gang. These prices compare to the The Cheesecake Factory in south Florida, who has a similar but wider menu. However the food is not much better than an upscale Casey's. A rib steak for $24 hard to justify, however far superior to a $17 tasteless hunk of beef at The Bifteque. So so Swordfish steak, also $24. Who's the waiter, although you won't need one, because they coddle you there. Very dark and noisy, not for the intimate diner...go to Hy's for better atmosphere and not much more expensive, although one dines with the 'martini' crowd, lawyers and business folk.

The Baton Rouge is not fine dining, for those prices I expect better quality and cloth napkins not paper.

The acoustics there make it a very noisy place. It's not too conducive to a quiet evening of conversation.

I ordered ribs, and if you select the fries option as a side dish, you will get lots of fries on your plate. But do not get the caramel apples they are not so great (personal taste).

I personally don't think their ribs are very good.
However, my colleagues normally go there every 2 or 3 weeks and always get the ribs. So, it is all differnt taste per person.

Just an overpriced, fast-food ribs place. It's no wonder the Sens can't win ... some of them eat way too much of their greasy, overly sweet ribs! They hide the ribs in way too much sauce. And I couldn't figure out the multiple server thing .. I like the personal touch of one server. Just another typical, over-rated franchise restaurant.

Go for the ribs. They are smoky and delicious. Their fries are addictive too. The rest of the food is 'ok', not bad, but not great. The portions are huge, if that is your thing. I don't think we'll go back as I am not a fan of the atmosphere (big, open and noisy)nor the fact that you have about 4-5 different servers during your meal. I find that very awkward.

I went thinking that it would be a good experience seeing all the positive reviews, but it turned out bad!. My 3rd server had to run to the restroom while getting us our drinks and then went home I guess sick with something. The next server informed us that he had been sick with the stomach flu but that was a few days ago and didn't think that it was that. (don't think he was a med student) 6 hours later some of us in the party including myself were in the washrooms at home vomiting with something as well? Poor hygiene from the server or problems with the food? It seems like a coincidence I don't know, I will be calling the health department this week that's for sure. The other problems with the over priced menu and poor service as well as students in the kitchen and serving staff don't seem so bad compared to the rest now.

Looking at this place, I was expecting it to be a bit upscale, based on the decor and lighting. Instead, I was treated to the typical steak and fries, and ketchup bottles on the table! Not a big deal at Outback, but not what I expect at a place charging $30+ for a dinner.
Steaks, however, were very good. My friend's chicken breast (can't remember which) was only so-so, but this place is really meant for steak/ribs. That said, it was not any better than Al's or anywhere else, and given the number of people insisiting this was the best place to eat, I expected better...it wasn't. Price for 7 people, with tax was around $400. At that price, I want some atmosphere with my meal, not pub atmosphere with steak and fries. That money is better spent at the Westin, Hy's, or Friday's.

Very nice ribs, the fries could be beefed up a bit, they give you lot's but they are similiar to fast food style french fries, and they don't stay appetizing very long - you need to get the right out of the fryer. I think that the restaurant gets by on two things, the ribs and the decor, which is high end looking and expansive. The rest of the menu items that I have tried over the years have been just average. They need to stop using team based servers, it's very confusing especially when they don't tell you that it works that way. First guy took our order so we assumed that he was 'our' waiter, someone else brought the food, someone else cleared the dishes, but then we never saw 'our' waiter again and I would have liked some condiments but was waiting to see him again, which never happened. The one waitress that took our dishes was great and I would have liked to tip her well, but didn't want to be that generous with the first indifferent guy, totally confusing!

I really liked the food. I had a salad, which came with a toasted chunk of baguette with cheese. Yummy. After that I had ribs and veggies. Those ribs... they were fantastic. People rave about the ribs at ribfest, and let me tell you, Baton Rouge should be showcasing their goods on Sparks St.

The atmosphere is alright, a bit noisy due to the size. The seats were comfy, it had a feel of 70's steakhouse, which is cool.

The service... is team-based. A lot of restaurants use this type of service in the USA, not so much in Canada. Some people don't like it, but I do, since it seems to be pretty efficient!

The price was good for the food we got. On par with what I would pay for a rack of ribs at ribfest.

I used to be a huge fan of this place. The first few visits were really good. Their spinach dip was truly something I looked forward to. My last two visits, however, were so surprisingly disappointing that it simply cannot go without mention. We received our appetizers at the same time as our main course. Our ribs, which were once held in high regard, were cold, tough and dry. Our drinks were not refilled and getting the attention of any server over the noise was impossible. Moreover, when it came time to pay, we were asked how we enjoyed our visit. I said we'd had better...reminiscent of the days where your appetizer came before the meal and taking polite criticism is also not one of their strong points. The waitress threw the remote debit machine at my date; not on the table but at him. It was a fitting end to a fitting experience. I haven't forgotten how good it used to be though. Perhaps I will try the one downtown and see if that location, subject to much stiffer downtown competition, is better at handling a little popularity.

This is my favourite restaurant in Kanata. I am always stuck when looking at the menu. Their ribs are to die for and their steak is phenomenal (trust me I am a picky steak eater). I've been there a few times and on average their service is really good. They also have amazing deserts. I was not that impressed by their drinks but honestly this is one of those special places I will always return to. Surprisingly they also have a tasty vegetarian selection, it's not a big selection, but my friend who ordered the avacado sandwhich still craves it everytime I mention the place.

This was by far the best experience i've had at a restuarant, the ribs were just to die for. The service was quick and professional and the staff was very knowledgeable. Although i didn't like how you never know who your waiter is, it was the best service i've recieved in Ottawa. Rumour has it there opening a new location downtown somewhere, if its true i can't wait for it to open, it'll save me a trip out to Kanata for the ribs

I'm of two minds with this place. On one hand, the food was good, the service was quick, the price was reasonable enough.

But it was dark inside, it was noisy and the "shared service" (read: multiple servers at one table) confused me. Who the heck and how much do I tip??

To sum it up, it's a good place to go, but it doesn't stand out in my mind enough to really recommend it to anyone as a *great* place to go to.

We went on a Friday night without reservations, and had a 40 minute wait ahead of us. No problem, (I mean where else is there to go in whites-ville kanata). We sat at the bar, had drinks. Quick and decent bar service.

Finally got our table and we both ordered the ribs.

The ribs were amazingly tender, however the sauce was so bland....I was surprised. There was no taste. I ordered fries with my meal, they were ok (all two pounds of them!).

I really liked the decor of the restaurant, but I did find it rather noisy, however in a restaurant that big, what can you expect.

The service was weird, with all the servers running in circles, tending to each others tables etc. (I think we had 4 different servers throughout the dinner).

Overall a dissapointment, not a huge dissapointment, but one none the less that will cause me not to return.

This is truly a bizarre place. It's dark like one would expect from a steakhouse, yet fairly noisy with a large crowded bar near the entrance. Are they trying to be classy or a true BBQ/eat-with-your-hands kind of joint??

The menu is all over the place and wines are so-so. Prices are HIGH. Can't comment on the ribs, though they certainly looked popular, as my wife and I had steaks for dinner. These were fired properly but choice of sides was disappointing.

Wait staff were knowledgable but service was too fast ... we tried to keep some time between appetizers and mains to enjoy our bottle of rouge, but the food was on the table in no time. Good if you're about to hit the cinemas, but bad if you're trying to enjoy the company of your dining companion(s).

We won't be back because of the overly high cost:quality ratio.

To me, this restaurant is the epitome of suburban culinary schizophrenia. It's a restaurant that tries to be higher end (higher prices), has decent food...but really and completely lacks the finesse a restaurant like that needs. It is loud, the servers are brash and it has more of a sports bar atmosphere than anything. If you want good ribs, you'll find them. But in all honesty, I like to dine out for a calm, relaxing (and sometimes even romantic) escape from the day-to-day...you don't find it here, but you pay for it.

Alittle more pricey then your average family restaurant, this place may be the best restaurant in the city of Ottawa (Kanata). You have to have their ribs, and in case you missed the it, you have to have their ribs. Everytime I go into the place I am greeted by a friendly hostess who is smiling, I get great service, and the quality is consistant. I have had their New York striploin and it is amazing but the ribs are why you should go. Sterling Silver Baby Back Ribs that are fall-off-of-the-bone tender in the best bbq sauce I have ever had. The only thing about the place that may bother people is that they don't do substutions with their meals. You only get to chose from their listed side no matter what. I would also like to say how nice it is to have the owners in the restaurant. That right, there are a few owners at this location and one of them is in the restaurant at all times.
Great job Baton Rouge, I will be back again.

Amazing place...gees people on this website are difficult...The ribs are the best I've ever had and I am very picky when it comes to ribs. They just come off the bone. I had the special that night, it was 29 bucks for a huge rack of ribs, a incredibly large chicken breast and a king size shrimp skewer. There was also a mountain of really thinly sliced fries. Those are great. It came with a ceaser salad that was also great. If you want to treat yourself, go here!!

Went for supper last night. Not my type of restaurant but was going with a group for a birthday.
I had the ribs with vegetables. I am always disappointed when the vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I find it just so boring and predictable. I can eat that at home any night. The ribs were very delicious, very tender and fell off the bone. Very large portion as well. As always, I find the price of ribs way too expensive but that is how much they are everywhere.
Restaurant was extrememly noisy but that is the type of restaurant it is.
Service was good.
Also, I asked the waitress if I could order a piece of cake with a candle for the birthday girl. She suggested a chocolate mousse cake that they have that feeds 8 people (which we were) and comes with a sparkler. She also assured me that there would be no embarassing display from the wait staff (thank god).
The cake was delicious and there did not seem to be a charge on mine or anyone elses bill? Not sure if that was an oversight or if they actually offer this free cake for birthdays. You may want to enquire. If it is indeed free then I would suggest going there for a birthday. Seems like a good deal to me!

We have been to Baton Rouge in Montreal and this restaurant falls short on service and price. Not only did we have a reservation for nine p.m but to be called a liar even though we comfirmed that it was 9 to say it was 9:30 because they overbooked reservations. But not to seem grateful the manager did give free appetizers and free shots for the inconvience.Arrived at 8:30 left at 11:30 we wasted at least 2hours of our time doing nothing but wait. They still have a lot of improvements to do.I hope they read this site it is their best source of info for improving in their weak areas.

This restaurant use to be one of my favorites, now you can't get a reservation without calling days in advance. And most importantly, lately when we go the meal and service is hit & miss. We have had excellent ribs & prime rib, then dry overcooked meals where our drinks were never refilled. I am not sure if it's because the place is just too busy now or what...

The food here is wonderful: the portions are huge and well worth the price. The serving style is interesting, if not nerve-wraking. The big downfall: My family and I were sitting near the kitchen, in one of the big booths, and for the hour and a half that were were there, all we could hear was some guy (I assume he is an owner, because if he was only a manager, he should have been let go a long time ago for speaking to his serving staff the way he did.) This gentleman was rude, hurtfull and obnoxious, and I had to tell my children to never speak like this guy or I would wash their mouths out with soap!!!!
So if you go to this restaurant, make certain that you specify that you do not want to sit near the kitchen if this obnoxious jerk is working, because he is enough to ruin a nice family outing.

I am not too sure what all these people are saying when they feel that the food and service are bad. I have never had a better meal (the Prime Rib), the service was amazing, and the price was expected. If you can't afford a restaurant, don't go to it (hint: the menus are usually posted on the outside of most restauratns you can't afford). The team service thing is the way of the future. More and more restaurants are adapting to it because it serves the client not the restaurant or its server. If you want to be coddled, get an escort or call your mother for dinner at her house. Love this restuarant, my friends love it and if the Sens and media personailties can eat there on a regular basis, then count me in.

If one could clone a Montreal / Toronto style restaurant perfectly - this Baton Rouge location would be up to par!!!! Its not!! Its got the looks, it almost has the feel! But I would rather drive almost 2 hours and get the real experience in Montreal! This one offers truly first class awful service!! they seem confused! and unfocus!! Service for some and I is very important !!! You want my cash - impress the heck out of me !! The food...... The food ends up not meeting the expectation of the asking price! I am not cheap - but if I pay for a Beamer, don't hand me a Neon S

If you go here for the ribs- and you should, you will not be disappointed. By far the best ribs in the city... A little pricey, but ribs are expensive even at much lesser places. The atmosphere and great food make for a good "event" dinner with friends or family.

The ribs are very good. But some of the sides left much to be desired. I ordered fries with my ribs and they looked as if they were McCain's shoestring frozen fries!!! My wife ordered the Amarillo chicken and it was tough to eat. She said the baked potato was better then the chicken. We ordered the tortilla chips and what they call picante. The tortilla chips were excellent but the picante looked like it was from a jar. The service is strange also. We could not figure out our server. I tip on the service I get from one person, so in this environment, I did not tip much. Nice place on the inside.

This is my second visit here...and I still find it expensive...two dinners (we both had Rib steak) and a (relatively) inexpensive wine comes to over a C-note...$24+ for a Rib Steak is pretty pricy...I'd recommend the Keg over the Baton Rouge anytime... my previous post follows... Expensive! Everybody I know who has visited asks the same question---"who the hell was our server?" They use a system called "multiple service servers" which, in theory, should mean better, more attentative service, but without a "real designate" the service suffers. The food is good and the ribs are great but you can get the same size portion for half as much at Le Biftheque and the ribs at the Biftheque are easily, the best in town!

The food was excellent but not enough in the plate for the price you pay. The service was very friendly and atmosphere was good. The price too expensive afterall it should be reasonable not everyone is able to afford this price. If you go you go only once for that price or a very special event. Not recommended to bring a family as it's not affordable. Too bad though as if their price would be more reasonable they would be more successful.

I went to eat at many Baton Rouge and I could say that I enjoyed every single one of their atmosphere. Dimmed lights in a very dark decor, gives me the feeling of letting goe and just relax. As for the food, it is good, but I believe that it's way over priced. Their meats migth be a triple "A" quality, but probably their way of cooking or treating them is probably not appropriate. And at last, the service, I got to admit that their system is pretty effective in fast serving food, but like anything, their are flaws...Since you don't really have a personnal waiter, you can not get a personnalized service, it is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!Their service ressemble alot to a factory work chain. This is a personnal matter, but i like to be served by the waiter that served me in the first place. When I see waiters picking up a plate of a gentleman and his lady hasn't finished eating, to me it is extremely impolite. The service is quick but professionnalism should be worked on a little more carefully. But please don't get me wrong the service was still good, and remember that some waiters can be rude but management is there for a reason, so please use it, cause as a paying customer, you should always get your money"s worth.

I really enjoyed the food, and the service was surprisingly good considering other comments here. It was noisy, and packed for Saturday at 6 PM. The only downside -- the price! The food was good and plentiful but not worth the money. Average entree was $20 and up. If I want to spend >$100 on dinner for two I can think of far better places to go. Worth if it you have a gift certificate (like I did)!

Difficulty determining server(should state procedure on seating) More attentiveness required by server Seating should be monitored for lagging patrons, awaiting seating, who create undue noise and overcrowding too close to booths of seated eating patrons Food was hot and delicious Bar drink(martini) was poorly made and not the right temperature Service was good once procedure was realized I will return and provide an updated opinion

I read all the email comments before I went. I also had been to a Baton Rouge in Montreal. Co-workers who had been there for lunch and dinner mentioned a few things as well.I am the MOST picky person when it comes to eating out so I was very happy that I was happy with everything. The price is probably a little more than the average dinner out but hey you get the best ribs in town if you are a rib fan. My husband said he preferred the steak at Outback . In this group of 4 that was the only thing said negative. The spinich dip is enough for 4 to share. The service was great and the timing between appetizres , the "do you need another drink?" came well timed intervals etc. Enough said . You won,t be disappointed.

Pork chop was like nothing I have had before. Thick, lean and juicy (recommend a side of the Rib BBQ sauce for dipping). My bud had the chicken and ribs and only paid a few dollars more than chicken places in town but got twice the food. Good selection of beer on draft. We had different people serve us but who cares. Price was good for the amount of food we got. No complaints. Been back twice since.
