Two dinner visits
A 2nd visit in September which confirmed that the food is really good there (sushi/sashimi bento dinner) was followed by a 3rd visit where this time, we tried the all-you can-eat tabletop cooking. We sampled all the meats (bulgogi beef, pork (excellent), chicken and squid. We didnt do the vegetables as the free side dishes was quite a bit (steamed green veggies, kimchee, white beet, seaweed and bean sprouts). The dinner also came with salad, miso soup (very tasty) and sushi (the salmon and white tuna nigiri were excellent, the rolls were good (salmon, black dragon, spicy salmon, california). An excellent dining experience was had by all.

Great (118.80)

Ali rang was closed so we went here one night to be pleasantly surprised!
The menu had a good selection and the server was friendly and attentive.

The pickled appetizers were lovely and the palate cleansing grapefruit after the main was perfect.

I went again for the BBQ and had fun!

Good for the BBQ
I think this might be my favorite Korean restaurant in Ottawa, but it has some drawbacks. The service can be good, but can also be so-so. The ambience is alright, but it feels like it needs a good clean. I love Korean BBQ and I think theres is alright, but definitely overpriced. Jap Chae, tempura, sushi, bulgogi, all good, but you can get better, but maybe not in Ottawa. Lunch specials are reliable and great value.
I would recommend this restaurant particularly if you are unfamiliar with Korean food, and would like to try it.

Love the Table Top Cooking
I've been to this restaurant many times. I love it. I've only ever been here for dinner. We always get the Table Top Cooking BBQ beef, pork, ribs, seafood or a combination. The Korean pancakes they serve included with every meal are to die for. Somtimes I feel like just ordering them! I enjoy being able to cook your own meal at your table. Everything tastes so fresh and hot. I find you never have to wait long for service and waiters are very friendly. I think it is a great restaurant to go on a first date. (Did so myself and now we are married!).

Great beef BBQ
I would have to say that I've eaten at MANY different restaurants of varying palates, but I've had the pleasure of eating Korean food in the home of a very dear Korean family.

Korea Garden's food is not the best I've tasted, but the food is definitely worth trying. Even if you only have an order of the do-it-yourself bbq beef, its a fun, social way of consuming a meal!

For starters we ordered a traditional Korean soup, of which I can't remember the name, but it was boiling hot and contained seafood, chicken, noodles, bamboo shoots and some other vegetables. I wasn't a huge fan, but some of the Korean people in our group really enjoyed it. We devoured the traditional Korean pancakes which were like regular pancakes but salty and contained vegetables. YUMMY

For a main course, we mostly had the bbq'ed beef, which was expertly marinated and then cooked by us at the table.
I will agree with one other reviewer in saying that the accompanying salads were not that great. The kimchi especially was lacking in flavour.

The service was excellent and very attentive, but it may have been because we were a large group of about 15pple. The new owner even came over and introduced himself and offered us a couple complimentary platters of sushi!!
Definitely a very nice touch, and we will soon go back for some more bbq.. since it is winter time..

** Ventilation is generally not the problem if you leave smelling like the restaurant, that is typically expected for any type of place where grilling is done.. even at home! If you've been to Lone star or Mexicali Rosa's then you'll know what I mean!!

I've been there many times. Sat.'s AUCE is not that bad. Espcially if you'r meat lover. Their BBQ spiced pork is very tasty and flavorful, and veal spare rib is nice too(they'r not in the AUCE selection, so bad T_T)

Quality no more…
I was surprised to hear that it had reopened so we wanted to introduce our friends to what we “remembered” to be good Korean food. Our mistake.
I remembered that I was impressed with their cook-it-yourself style buffet the last time we went. The food was nothing special this time around. The meat was marinated very ordinarily, if we did not ask for hot sauce, I would not have known I was eating Korean dishes. The complimentary side dishes were a disappointment, only 3 dishes (kimchi, pickled white radish & bean sprouts). Other restaurants we have been to, offered a bigger and tastier selection.
On another note, their ventilation needs serious improvement. Even though we did not have the Korean BBQ meat, our hair and clothes smelled horrible.
Let’s hope the new to be open (October 2007) Korean all-you-can eat restaurant on Somerset will be better than this place. We will need to replace our Korean food dine-out with something better.

The buffet is okay, but I wouldn't want to go often just to cook my own meat and pour teryaki sauce all over it.

Went there with a group of seven on Saturday. big mistake. people warned me about the poor service but I didn't listen. It took over an hour to get our sashimi platter. I ordered a tfu and monkfish dish. The tofu was spoiled. I didn't complain though because if they took it back I might not get something to eat for antoher two hours.

The worst was the service. I give the servers credit because they are understaffed. We asked for a pot of tea so that we don't have to sit there for half an hour waiting, but they brought a jug of water instead and said they don't have tea. Everything was slow slow slow. The the waitress yelled at us for complaining about how slow it is and how we were dying from hunger.

What a disaster. I will think twice about going there again. I heard there's a smaller better Korean place on wilbrod. Will try that instead.

The only Korean BBQ in town I believe. The food was very good, but service was a turn down. Firstly the people there didn't look friendly, secondly they rarely come to your table or add more tea/water.

If you really can't resist Korean BBQ, you can only poor yourself with bad service in this place. Or else like my hubby said, "there are still a lot more restaurants out there waiting to earn my $$$".

My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times and are great fans of the Korean BBQ beef and pork. It is tasty and a lot of fun to grill. The Japanese food available is good.

The BBQ tastes great with lettuce - the Korean way of eating it. We have been there many times and have had to ask for lettuce - sometimes without success, unless we brought a korean friend along.

We love the BBQ grill feature. Some consistency in service would make us go there all the time.

Tried L5 for lunch (tempura bento box). Price was avg but food not worth price. Restaurant smelled weird inside (fermenting soya beans smell). Rude customers hanging around doorway while exiting and tapping on turtle terrarium. Free 4 Korean side dishes. I have never tried Korean food, but for the Japanese stuff, I would not go here.

Tried this place for the first time. I've only been once so I don't want to rate anything but just give my first impressions.

I ordered item SPA1, which consists of an assortment of things including (my appologies for not knowing the names of the dishes): some basic soup, noodles, sushi, bbq meats including pork, chicken and beef, and finally a desert which was one very small piece of orange and another very small piece of honey due.

Anyways, the aprox. 25$ for the food was worth it. Service was GREAT! Everything arrived when it should have and timimg was perfect.

The "pieces-of-fruit" desert was disapointing but if you eat everything, you're full at that stage anyways.

Note: You can bbq your own meat at the table (grill in middle of table) or they can cook it for you. Also, there were no utensils apart from the spoon for the soup so work those chopstick skills. ;)

Regular (41.40)

Have been to this place quite a number of times. Been there for their regular lunches, Lunch buffet and regular diner.

Their AYCE Korean BBQ lunch during the weekend is similar to what they serve at AYCE korean BBQ places in Toronto or Vancouver. Except they also serve some other cooked items like the Korean version of Sweet and Sour Pork as well as a very limited selection of Sushi. $15.99 for their lunch buffet is more than what they charge in Toronto for a diner buffet. However, this is Ottawa, and consider what the gas prices are these days, (makes going there for food "a weekend pig out" prohibitive) I think what they charge are reasonable.

So what you're saying is if it wasn't for the high gas prices, you'd be driving to Toronto for lunch? A spike in the price of oil is not a reason to gauge people at a lunch buffet.

I have been to this restaurant once for their lunch BBQ buffet on Saturdays. The price is comparable to the Korean BBQs in Toronto and Vancouver but the choice is rather limited. Also, all the different kinds of meat are marinated to the same taste. However, it's still good value for money, esp you really crave for Korean BBQ or want to try it for the first time.

Tried this place for lunch, not impressed, the chicken was more like Japanse teriyaki chicken and not Korean. So much for authentic Korean.

The food for lunch is not bad and reasonably priced, but regular korean bbq is expensive if you go on a regular night. Additionally, the food for their buffet style bbq was very not fresh.

We often go to this restaurant because we love their sushi, even more their sashimi. We are regular customers and the staff have even started teaching us some korean, it's quite pleasant. Their bbq on the table gives the people going a more entertained feel, though can we alot of work. Seems the women usually do the work. I highly recommend this place, and their lunches are fantastic!

My wife and I tried this place for the first time during dinner. Food was fairly decent. The service, on the other hand, needed some refinement. At times, the wait staff was no where to be found. Some items were a bit pricy though. Owner did not bother greeting us, and seemed less than enthusiastic to welcome customers into his establishment. We did not try the buffet, may try that next. Overall, our dining experience was ok, just ok. Nothing more, nothing less.

I always come here during winter for their Korean BBQ Buffet. It's around $15 for lunch on the weekends where you can have Korean BBQ at the table - buffet style! Items include pork, beef, chicken, fish, squid, sushi, soup, various Korean appetizers, rice. A pretty good deal! I also come for Korean food. Seems like only Koreans would come to this place though. I went there on a weekend for lunch and we were the only table which weren't Koreans. I like their appetizers the most, which are FREE. Those include the yummy pancakes, beansprouts, sour carrots and KIMCHI! For those who haven't tried Korean food, I highly recommand this place! The only thing I don't like is the menu which doesn't have a lot of photographs. And also Mr. Owner doesn't look very friendly....
